Boise is cool.

As a member of the BJG team since 2004, I have engineered many large industrial facilities, office buildings, retail centers, and water transmission facilities. BJG has given me ample opportunity to develop my technical skills while encouraging me to expand my knowledge of the development and construction process. I am proud to carry the title California Professional Engineer and LEED AP.

Among other great things life has to offer, I enjoy Fly Fishing, watching the Giants beat the Dodgers, playing all sorts of sports, cruising my bicycle, and gardening. In my opinion, I am only 49% crazy and 1% insane.

Kara loves sustainability.

I was hired at BJG at the end of 2003 as an intern while still going to school and soon moved up to a full time a structural designer. During my time at BJG, I have accomplished many things including graduating from the University of Nevada-Reno with my bachelor’s of science degree in Civil Engineering, obtaining my Civil Engineering License in California, and becoming a LEED® AP. I am passionate about the environment and am proud to say some call me the “tree hugger of BJG”, as I compost our coffee grounds from work and always strive to find new ways to be more environmentally friendly.

Two-story 22,000 sf facility including 6 double depth apparatus bays and the full compliment of support services requried for a regional, multi-us fire station facility. This challenging project required integrating complex structure within a context sensitive envelope.

Clark County Fire Station #33

Fire Station #33 is the second of six fire stations based on the Prototype Fire Station preparatory design program completed here at BJG. Fire Station #33 programming and schematic design intentions reflect the Prototype’s characteristics and influences. This station is unique due to location approximates to the LVCVA and that it added one additional bay to the prototype design, handling critical homeland security issues that may arise on the strip.

Reno Community Assistance Center

Tilt-up concrete walls and concrete-on-metal deck floors. An “art deco” style exterior and durable interiors to provide for homeless services. The first phase consists of three buildings: 2 two-story buildings and one single-story building. The uses are public homeless housing, public meal facility and a public assistance center. A future second phase, now in design, will provide a women’s shelter and a family shelter along with office for a variety of support organizations.

Double Diamond Commercial Center

Double Diamond Commercial Center consists of 3 buildings each divisible down to 5,000sf condominiums. Each unit has a private entrance and unique signage opportunity. The total project square footage is 140,700sf.

The architectural design consists of a faceted, radial design which maximizes the curved site.

Structural system consists of concrete tilt-up panels, steel joists and metal deck roof and 18 foot clear height.
